Against the Odds: Pitt underdogs to Towson

I’ve been trying to get to some of the odds for Pitt’s basketball games in the non-conference season but just haven’t had time to. Plus, the Panthers were expected to win a good bit of them, so it wasn’t too important, anyway.

One line that’s a little intriguing is for Pitt’s next game, though. The Panthers will face Towson and are three-point underdogs.

Towson is 10-2 but I’m also wondering just how good they are. They haven’t really beaten anybody and their two losses came on the road to Old Dominion and a 7-5 Oakland team. In addition, they’ve also got several close wins, including a three-point victory against Georgia Southern, a one-point win against a bad Manhattan team, and a four-point win over Morgan State, who is 4-5. Their best win of the year is probably against 8-4 Penn, who similarly hasn’t beaten anyone.

I’m not saying Pitt is guaranteed to win this game, especially without Ryan Luther, who is regarded as the team’s most important, if not best, player. But the Panthers get the game at home and have been playing mostly pretty well, the second half of that Delaware State game, notwithstanding.

We’ll see if that line ends up being accurate.
