Today's play-in matchup features the 15 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2003-04 versus the 18 seed Virginia Cavaliers 1983-84

The winner of the best of 5 series will get #2 UNC 08-09 next.

Georgia Tech leads the series 1-0

Notes: BJ Elder led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points including a couple clutch free throws late in the game to lead to the win.  Elder got some help from the trio of Ismail Muhammad (11 pts, 5 rebs), Clarence Moore (10 pts, 5 rebs), and Jarrett Jack (10 pts, 2 stls) who all finished in double-figures.  Virginia was led by Rick Carlisle's 17 points, while Jim Miller (12 pts, 6 rebs) and Othell Wilson (11 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asts) also finished in double-figures.

Georgia Tech leads the series 2-0

Notes: BJ Elder led a balanced Georgia Tech attack with 14 points as nine Yellow Jackets scored and 5 finished in double-figures.  Jim Miller led Virginia with 14 points, but the difference tonight was the Georgia Tech defense on Rick Carlisle.  After scoring 17 points in game #1, Rick Carlisle took just 4 shots and finished with just 6 points.

Georgia Tech 03-04: 63

Georgia Tech leads the series 2-1

Notes: After two games where Virginia averaged 65.5 points per game, the UVA offense broke out with 87 points.  Jim Miller led the way with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Rick Carlisle added 17 points.  Othell Wilson showed his versatility once again scoring 14 points and adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists.  Jarrett Jack led Georgia Tech with 14 points in the loss.  After leading Georgia Tech in scoring the first two games of the series, BJ Elder finished with just 6 points on 1 of 5 shooting.

Georgia Tech 03-04: 62

The series is tied 2-2

Notes: Virginia evened up the series at 2 as Jim Miller led the way with 15 points and Olden Polynice added 14 points.  The difference in the game came on the free throw line where Virginia made more free throws than Georgia Tech even attempted.  The Yellow Jackets were led by BJ Elder's 14 points in the loss.

Georgia Tech wins the series 3-2

Notes: Jarrett Jack saved his best for last, scoring 17 points in game 5 on 5 of 8 shooting.  Jack went 7 for 8 from the free throw line including hitting several clutch free throws in the final minutes of the game.  Virginia was led by Rick Carlisle's 14 points.  Virginia moves on to face #2 UNC 08-09 in the next round.
