The Wake Forest Demon Deacons snapped a three-game losing streak when they defeated the Samford Bulldogs 86-68. The Deacs were up just 47-41 at halftime, but limited Samford to 38% shooting in the second half to win by 18. Wake dominated the glass, as they outrebounded Samford 42-26. Wake also shot 31 free throws compared to Samford's 11.
Devin Thomas led the way for the Deacs, as the junior finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Followed by Thomas was a fairly balanced effort. Madison Jones and Codi Miller-McIntyre each had 11, Cornelius Hudson and Konstantinos Mitoglou each had 9, Mitchell Wilbekin had 8 and Greg McClinton had 7.
Samford applied a full-court press for the majority of the game, and I thought the Deacs handled it quite well. They broke it quite easily and that led to a lot of fast and secondary break opportunities. Wake Forest had just 13 turnovers and had 17 assists. They could have had a lot more assists, but they missed some bunnies around the basket.
Tyler Hood finished with 18 points for Samford.
Samford (3-8,0-2) will travel to Presbyterian (4-6,0-0) on Tuesday. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-5,0-1) will now travel to Sunrise, Florida to take on the Florida Gators (6-4,0-0).
