The Wake Forest football team went out to Utah, but unfortunately could not bring home a win.
Wake Forest and Josh Banks started off with an incredible pick-six and 7-0 lead, but Utah State went on a 29-0 run before winning by a final score of 36-24. The loss brings the Utah State Aggies to 2-1 on the season and drops the Demon Deacons to 1-2.
Utah State had nearly 400 yards of total offense and utilized jet sweeps and misdirections to confuse the Demon Deacons and beat them with speed to the perimeter. They also beat Wake with big plays, as they had plays of 44, 42 and 31 yards, respectively. The Deacs finished with 257 yards of total offense, and that included -25 rushing yards. True freshman Isaiah Robinson had the most carries with 9 and gained just 13 yards.
Cam Serigne continues to be a promising prospect for Wake Forest and hauled in 7 receptions for 91 yards. E.J. Scott also had 5 receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown. True freshman quarterback John Wolford finished 20 for 50 with 257 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Antonio Ford left the game early with an injury, and we will learn more on his injury status as the week progresses.
The Deacons continue to be a heavily penalized time as they finished with 10 penalties for 103 penalty yards.
