If you recall, we weren’t big fans of Pittsburgh’s hire of Kevin Stallings. We thought the hire was a downgrade. We were, however, encouraged by the hire of Heather Lyke as Pittsburgh’s Athletic Director.
The downward trend, however, continued with Panther basketball again today. We’re going to stop here and give Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) an open microphone on our website. Here we go:
No school should restrict the transfer of an unpaid, amateur student for any reason. Period. Pitt is wrong here, and should let Johnson go. pic.twitter.com/QFAa8lE5a9

Restricting Cam Johnson’s transfer is the same as a non-compete provision in an employment contract. Pitt athletes: students or employees? pic.twitter.com/YQkpDZAA9i — Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) May 21, 2017
@MichaelClaus4 It’s immoral, that’s why. One cannot restrict pay, say they’re not employees but just students, then restrict them as employees. — Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) May 21, 2017
@Lupe3asco @MichaelClaus4 If bargained for and paid for, that’s fine. This is neither. No other student is restricted in such a way. It’s wrong.

@ChadWyrick No. The ACC has no such rule, for good reason. It’s immoral and wrong.

@coachsons So? They’re worth more. If such a great deal, let it stand on its own in the marketplace. No other student’s pay is restricted in any way. — Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) May 21, 2017
@slam254 @jasperabbott Invested? Is he a student or an asset? Silly. Does Pitt not “invest” in every student? Johnson did his duty. There should be no restriction. — Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) May 21, 2017
@HolliHC Not uncommon to allow an unrestricted transfer, either. And stop with the “commitment” thing. It’s nonsense. Pitt committed to the Big East.

Didn’t EMU “invest” in AD Heather Lyle before bolting to Pitt? Yet, unpaid, amateur student transfer is restricted? https://t.co/JanOqzpJ2W

Cameron Johnson GRADUATED from Pitt, and stayed at Pitt when his coach, Jamie Dixon, bolted to TCU. Now, he’s restricted? That’s wrong.

Thank you to @JayBilas - I couldn’t have said it better on Pittsburgh’s treatment of Cameron Johnson.
