Agau adds some front court depth to the Cardinals’ 2018-19 roster.
After stints at Georgetown and SMU, Akoy Agau is returning to Louisville to finish his college career.
A four-star recruit who signed with Louisville fresh off the Cardinals’ national title in 2013, Agau’s first stint at U of L didn’t go swimmingly. He scored a total of just 17 points in 19 game appearances as a freshman in 2013-14. He then announced his intentions to transfer in the middle of the 2014-15 season after appearing in just three games and totaling just 11 points.
Agau would have been eligible to join Georgetown for the second semester of the 2015-16 season, but he tore his ACL in October (hence the “extra” year of eligibility here). He then averaged 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for G’Town in 2016-17. The Hoyas went 14-18 that season and John Thompson III was fired, prompting Agau to jump ship again. He landed at SMU, where he averaged 5.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season.
Here he is in action for the Mustangs:
At 6’8, Agau — who will turn 24-years-old this November — provides experience and size to a U of L roster in desperate need of both. He becomes the 10th scholarship player that Chris Mack will have at his disposal in 2018-19.
Welcome back, Akoy.
