Not a great week of recruiting news for the Cards, while Miami picks up their 3rd transfer of the offseason.
The first of Louisville’s major grad transfer targets is off the board. Florida Gulf Coast’s Zach Johnson announced on Twitter Thursday night that he will be continuing his career at Miami.
Johnson took an official visit to U of L on Tuesday.
First of All I Would Like To Thank My FGCU Family For Everything During My Time There The Relationships I Have Built Will Never Be Forgotten. With That Being Said I am Proud and Happy To Announce That I Will Be Attending The University of Miami For My Grad Year. #CANES pic.twitter.com/xYBawAH5QS

Johnson averaged 16.1 ppg in 2017-18, the second-best for a Florida Gulf Coast team that won the Atlantic Sun’s regular season title. He shot nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Of the three major grad transfer names that Louisville has been closely tied to, this is the one I thought could have helped the Cards the most. Major bummer.

“He can shoot the 3-ball,” teammate Brandon Goodwin told the Naples Daily News last November. “He can drive it. One of the things that’s special about him is you don’t have to call a play for him. You get him a ball-screen and he’ll make a play for you. Whether it’s driving down and dunking or driving in the lane with a floater or driving and finding an open teammate. I think that’s something that’s hard to teach. He’s super athletic. When he gets around the rim, he can finish. And he can go in spurts of scoring four or five baskets in a row, especially at times when we need it. What makes him special is he can do it all.”
Johnson is the 3rd transfer of the offseason for Miami and will be available immediately. Here's more on the other two again from CanesWatch.
UM recently received a pledge from Wyoming freshman transfer Anthony Mack (6-6, 218), a former three-star recruit who hopes to play this year, and sit-out Oklahoma transfer guard Kameron McGusty (6-5, 191), a former top-50 national recruit.
When McGusty (an eligible junior in 2019-20), Johnson and Mack enroll, Miami will have 12 scholarship players. The Hurricanes could add another transfer or prep player to round out the roster.
