Just a few quick post-game thoughts. Bud Foster again proves why he’s one of the best defensive coordinators in college football. Taking an undermanned and largely inexperienced unit, he had the FSU offensive line totally confused. He rotated players, called timely blitzes and had FSU off-balance all night. It reminded me of his master-piece game at Ohio State in 2014.
QB Josh Jackson was efficient and played a pretty mistake free game against an FSU defense that played their hearts out. The Hokies now can work on building defensive depth over their next 3 games against William & Mary, East Carolina, and Old Dominion. A game at Duke will be a test, but survive and it sets up a monster game with Notre Dame in Blacksburg.
What has to be really encouraging for Virginia Tech fans is how well the Hokie offensive line played. They open several gigantic holes in the running game, and did a solid job protecting Jackson. That group will only get better too.
With Miami’s wretched performance against LSU, and their issues with Malik Rosier at QB, the Hokies are now the team to beat in the Coastal Division.
