Miami is eliminated on account of the FBI stuff...

Following news of the Miami Hurricanes’ involvement in a widespread Department of Justice investigation around pay-for-play in college basketball, Jalen Carey has removed the ‘Canes from consideration. They were among his top three, along with the Syracuse Orange and Connecticut Huskies.

Carey’s father informed ZagsBlog of the decision. A source close to Carey also noted Miami was eliminated on Wednesday, according to WVUM/State of the U’s Josh White.

Syracuse has been pursuing Carey, a point guard from Harlem, for some time and he appreciates the attention from the Orange, knowing he’s the only guard they’re really recruiting at this time. He told Adam Zagoria:

“That makes me feel special, knowing that they’re not willing to take any chances. They know I’m the only option, they have all their faith in me. That’s something really special.”

At 6-foot-4 and 175 pounds, Carey is the 11th-ranked point guard in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports. He’s ranked among the top 50 or 60 players in the country, depending on who you ask. The ESPN 100 has him all the way up at 34th.

Carey had recently announced that he’d make his decision on his birthday, October 11. That date still holds with just two options remaining.

Syracuse currently has two players committed for 2018: Five-star Darius Bazley and three-star Buddy Boeheim. East Carolina transfer Elijah Hughes will also be eligible next season after arriving this offseason.

Some tape of Carey too, for those interested:
