If there was any worry about Louisville having a bit of a hangover following a painful loss at soon-to-be No. 1 Michigan State on Wednesday night, the Cards put those fears to bed early Saturday afternoon against visiting Grand Canyon.
U of L connected on 12 of its first 13 field goal attempts on its way to a 111-63 rout of Dan Majerle's Antelopes. The lopsided defeat represented the first loss of the season for 6-1 Grand Canyon, which is picked to finish second in the WAC.
As has been the case more times than not so far this season, Damion Lee was the Cardinal's offensive workhorse. The 5th year senior buried 7 of his 13 field goal attempts on his way to a game-high 24 points. Trey Lewis (16), Donovan Mitchell (13), Quentin Snider (12), and Chinanu Onuaku (10) also scored in double figures.
Despite playing with the game well-in-hand for the entirety of the second half, Louisville still finished 38 of 70 from the field as a team, good for 54.3 percent. The Cards also connected on 10 of their 22 attempts from beyond the arc, including a late pair from noted street-fighter David Levitch. The 61 points that U of L scored in the opening 20 minutes represented their highest first half total since 1998.
The only bad thing about today's performance? It's the last one we'll get to see for a full week until the Cards host Eastern Michigan next Saturday.
