Louisville fell to 0-3 in ACC play with an 83-70 loss to visiting Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon inside the KFC Yum Center.
Pitt had been 0-3 in league play before its lopsided win over the Cardinals. Louisville and Boston College — which plays at Georgia Tech later today — are now the only ACC teams still without a conference victory.
The latest chapter in this story of unprecedented futility read a lot like most of the ones before it: The Cards never really seemed to be in the game, they turned the ball over at a ridiculous rate (18), and they allowed an average offensive team to do pretty much whatever they wanted when they had the ball in their hands.
Mike James tried to rescue U of L, knocking down 5-of-7 shots from beyond the arc on his way to a 23-point performance.
Unfortunately, James offense wasn’t enough to keep pace with a Pitt team that was allowed to knock down 12 three-pointers and which went 19-of-21 from the free-throw line. Blake Hinson led the Panthers with 21 points.
The loss was Louisville’s fourth straight to Pitt, a team against which the Cards had previously won 17 of 18 games. Those four losses have come by an average of just under 20 points per game.
