Louisville’s fall from atop the college basketball rankings world wasn’t quite as precipitous as you might have guessed. Because it was an especially batshit crazy week in the sport, the Cards’ midweek lost to Texas Tech resulted in just a two-spot drop from No. 1 to No. 3 in the latest AP top 25 poll.
Via Kelly Dickey, this is the first season Louisville has remained in the AP top five through the first seven polls since the 1966-67 campaign.
Kansas is the fifth different team to sit atop the AP poll, climbing one position to take over the top spot from the Cardinals. Gonzaga, which notched a big road win over Arizona Saturday evening, is up to No. 2. Duke and Ohio State — which took its first loss of the season Sunday night at Minnesota — round out the top five.
Here’s the AP poll for week seven, which features a grand total of zero undefeated teams ranked in the top 10. That has to be some sort of record for this early in a season.
