Louisville withstood a late rally from a game Kentucky Wesleyan team to hold onto a 77-68 victory in their final preseason tune-up Monday night at the KFC Yum Center.
U of L's Damion Lee misfired on 11 of his 17 field goal attempts, but still led all Cardinal scorers with 19 points. Chinanu Onuaku was the team's only other double figure scorer, adding 11 points to go along with 6 rebounds.
Rick Pitino said afterward that he wasn't as pleased with the performance as he was after the Bellarmine game, but added that he learned a lot about the team that will help him figure out how to handle the start of the season.
"We're a work in progress," Pitino said. "I think this team has a chance to be outstanding, but it's going to take a lot of different things coming together. These guys are still figuring out how to play with each other. Damion and Trey are still figuring out what it is that we do defensively."
