Disappointing news for the Miami guard.
Bruce Brown injured his foot in practice on Monday and will require surgery. Brown is scheduled for surgery on Thursday and will miss 5-6 weeks.
The injury is the latest setback in a disappointing season for Brown, a sophomore considered a possible NBA first-round draft pick this year. He's averaging 11.4 points and shooting 42 percent, including 27 percent from 3-point range. All of those figures are a decline from his freshman season.
If Brown is sidelined six weeks, his return would coincide with the ACC tournament.
Larranaga spoke on the radio this morning and hinted at an injury to Brown at that time. The injury was formally announced shortly thereafter.
“Bruce Brown is hurt and there’s a chance he won’t play tomorrow night. There’s nothing we can do about that,” Larrañaga told Rose. “So, Bruce is also a great young man. I talked to one of his mentors last night and we had a great conversation. Bruce Brown is one of the great competitors there is. He loves playing basketball. He’s involved in every aspect of the game. He defends, he rebounds, he plays the point guard position, shooting guard position. He’s played [the] 1 through 4 [positions] this year. He’s guarded guys 6-9, 6-10, he’s guarded guys 5-10, 6-feet. He’s someone that has had a great impact on our program, both on and off the court.”
