As expected, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi because Pitt's new head football coach on Friday.
Earlier in the week, the athletics department called a 3:30 p.m. press conference and as everyone knew, that was to officially announce Narduzzi as the team's next head coach.
The job is Narduzzi's first head coaching job, but as we've discussed, he has been given head coaching responsibilities over the years under Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio. In the end, Narduzzi may be as close to a head coach without actually having been one. Any head coaching duties he may have had, of course, won't adequately prepare him for what he's about to take on. But it's good that he at least has had a hand in a few more things than just overseeing the defense.
As you might expect, since he spent so much time at Michigan State, Narduzzi made several references to the Spartans and his time there. He is expected to meet with the team on Friday.
The Narduzzi era at Pitt is finally underway and you can expect that he'll hit the ground running after the postseason.
