Pitt began a tough four-day stretch tonight with a road game against Miami. While the Panthers made things interesting for a little while, the ultimate result was another loss as the team fell, 69-57.
After falling behind by as much as 15 points in the first half, Pitt looked as if they were going to suffer another ugly blowout. But the Panthers fought back, even taking the lead by a point in the second half. That didn’t last long, though. Miami quickly regained its lead and pulled away.
12-point loss notwithstanding, this is the third game in a row that Pitt has played halfway decent and managed to keep things close. I don’t know that you can say the team is playing great. They still shot only 40% from the field and gave up a ton of offensive rebounds (while losing the overall rebounding battle by 15).
Still, the one thing you can say is that the team is playing better. Finishing games remains a problem and any time Pitt has been close in conference games, opponents have pulled away at the end. But I suppose it’s somewhat encouraging to see the losses closer.
