The #22 Panthers had to hold on late to escape with a 17-15 win over the Golden Bears. Pitt was held scoreless in the second half, and Cal had a chance to take the lead late but missed a 40-yard field goal with 1:50 left in the game. Running back Desmond Reid was the Panthers' best offensive player running for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, and he had a catch for 19 yards. Jimmy Scott had three sacks and Braylan Lovelace had two sacks for the Pitt defense. For Cal, quarterback Fernando Mendoza was 27-37 for 272 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Jack Endries caught eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
