Boeheim will be in Indianapolis to appeal the ACC ban.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will appeal his nine-game suspension Monday and cite the NCAA's sanctions against SMU coach Larry Brown in his case, according to a report from ESPN's Andy Katz.
Brown was suspended for nine games on Tuesday for a "lack of head coach control" after the NCAA found multiple academic fraud violations at SMU. Boeheim was suspended in March after Syracuse was found to have not exercised "institutional control."
But Brown was suspended in part for lying to NCAA investigators. That's something Boeheim will likely point to in his appeal, since he was never accused of lying to investigators, nor was he ever proven to have had any knowledge of the violations that occurred at SU.
Boeheim will also likely point out that he has been suspended for the Orange's first nine Atlantic Coast Conference games, whereas Brown's suspension will be served before SMU begins its American Athletic Conference schedule.
Boeheim will be appealing his suspension in Indianapolis, according to Katz.
UPDATE:
Boeheim told Syracuse.com Wednesday that he will not file another appeal to the NCAA, Donna Ditota reports, but wouldn't comment on whether he will be meeting with the Infractions Committee.
Boeheim said he has already filed one appeal and is expecting to get a response from the NCAA by November. The deadline for that appeal was April 20, Ditota reports.
UPDATE (2):
Now, Syracuse.com's Chris Carlson is reporting that Boeheim will indeed have a hearing with the NCAA's Infractions Appeals Committee on Monday.
"Boeheim and Syracuse University both said in March that they intended to appeal the NCAA's sanctions. The hearing in front of the Infractions Appeals Committee is a regularly-scheduled part of that process. It is not clear if Syracuse's appeal will also be heard Monday."
