The Mustangs put on a show in their home opener, defeating Houston Christian 59-7. The SMU offense had six plays that gained at least 15 yards, on their way to 589 yards of total offense. Running back Brashard Smith ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Preston Stone threw for two touchdowns and 78 yards on 6—9 passing, while Kevin Jennings completed 10-14 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.
