Class of 2018 point guard Eric Ayala told Corey Evans of Rivals.com over the weekend that he’s still considering a jump to the 2017 class.
Ayala did, however, tell Evans that he’s leaning towards the 2018 class, but nothing is finalized quite yet.
On April 20, Adam Zagoria reported that Ayala would officially be staying in the 2018 class and was no longer considering reclassifying.
That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore -- as Ayala has now stated multiple times since that report that he has not closed the door on anything regarding his future.
As for Corey Evans’ report, he gave a prediction that Ayala will in fact reclassify to 2017 and suit up for the Syracuse Orange next season.
“I am leaning more towards 2018 right now,” Ayala said over the weekend. “After the summer, I will sit down with my family and see what I want to do at the end. I just want an opportunity where I can come in and make an immediate impact and where I can feel comfortable playing my game.”
Ayala is known as a winner among most scouts, and isn’t flashy — but does everything right. He doesn’t turn the ball over, can get a basket when you need one and makes everyone around him better.
He stand at 6-foot-3 and attends Putnam Science Academy, the same school as former five-star target Hamidou Diallo.
Syracuse watched Ayala over the weekend, and continue to recruit the four-star prospect for the 2017 class. If he does choose to stay in high school for another year, SU’s offer remains on the table for 2018.
Syracuse still has three open scholarships for next season.
