81 - 72 On a night where no one else seemed to be able to get anything going, Louisville's big three was up to the task.
Chris Jones and Terry Rozier, the nation's best non-Yum Center backcourt, combined for 51 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and just one turnover as Louisville outlasted host Boston College, 81-72. Rozier and Jones were a combined 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 19-of-28 from the field overall. Jones also led the team with 6 rebounds.
Picking up the slack in the middle was Montrezl Harrell, who scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and swatted a pair of shots. His late dunk on an alley-oop pass from Rozier put the Cards up 7 and quieted the home crowd for good.
The flip side of that coin is that the other six players who saw the court for Louisville Wednesday night combined for more than twice as many personal fouls (12) as made field goals (5). Not ideal.
Getting next to nothing from the bench as well as the 3 and 5 spots didn't kill this team against Boston College, but it's hard to imagine a similar scenario playing out against North Carolina on Saturday, especially when you consider how much worse the Cards' stars have shot at home in recent weeks.
In the end, though, it's hard to be overly displeased with what took place tonight. The Vegas line on this game went off at 9.5, Ken Pom predicted the Cards to win by 6, and SCACCHoops had it as a 4-point U of L win. Matchups are weird, and ACC road wins are cool. That's your story for the night.
