Enhanced Live Box Score

Wake Forest opened up their season tonight beating North Carolina Central 94-48.  The Demon Deacons disposed of NCCU who is in their 2nd season at the D1 Level.  Wake shot 61% from the floor and was led by their freshman forward, Al-Farouq Aminu, who finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  James Johnson also added a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while also adding 5 assists.  Jeff Teague (14 pts, 6 asts), Tony Woods (12 pts), and Chas McFarland (12 pts, 7 rebs) added double-figures in the win.

Positives

  • Between outrebounding NCCU 46-32 and forcing 21 turnovers compared to 13 of their own, Wake had far more scoring chances.
  • Just like the exhibition game against Mount Olive, Wake forced their opponent to the perimeter shooting 37% of their shots from behind the arc
  • Wake attempted 36 layups and dunks compared to just 11 for NCCU

Negatives

  • Wake was just 2-11 from behind the arc which is only a concern when teams can match Wake's size and play zone.  Tonight, it wasn't a factor but it could be later on in the season.
  • After a huge exhibition game, LD Williams disappeared in this one after getting in foul trouble.

Factor of the Game

Wake Forest not only shot well, but played outstanding defense tonight.  After the first 13 minutes of the game, NCCU was shooting just 8% from the field, while Wake was shooting close to 70% and opened up a 39-6 lead.
