The ACC went 1-4 on Tuesday in the challenge, although Miami got a respectable win against Ole Miss in which they won by 13 (but led by 30+ at times). The lone winner was Wake Forest, thanks to freshman JT Terrell, who hit a 3 with 2 seconds left to give the Demon Deacons the 76-73 win over Iowa. Wake trailed by double-figures at halftime, but turned up the intensity in the 2nd half and started to attack.
The 3 gave Terrell 32 points for the game, while CJ Harris added 12 points and Ari Stewart added 10 points. The final 3 point shot was set up by a block by Ty Walker, one of several from the 7 footer in the final few minutes of the game. Walker ended with 5 blocks and 8 rebounds to lead Wake in both categories.
In other action, UNC went to Illinois in the marquee matchup of the night. Check out TarheelFanBlog's recap here.
Georgia Tech got blitzed by Northwestern 87-65, the Wildcats scored 55 of their points in the first half that saw them post an amazing 93.1 eFG%. Northwestern ended up with an eFG% of 84 an offensive efficiency of 143, while Georgia Tech claimed the edge in both rebound percentages and turnover percentage. Essentially, Georgia Tech had more possessions, but Northwestern was 22 points more efficient.
FSU hosted Ohio State in a game that I thought would be a perfect upset scenario for the Seminoles. My one key to the game was that the Noles needed to knock down shots early to give themselves a chance. FSU didn't knock down shots early, middle, or late in this one. Florida State posted an embarassing offensive efficiency of just 65.7 and drew a large amount of criticism on their offense. Andrew Jones of FoxSportsCarolina.com pointed out that FSU doesn't set screens, Jay Bilas on air pointed out that FSU doesn't even run an offense, and I constantly pointed out every isolation play they ran. Applaud the FSU defense all you want, and it is good, but their offense is wretched.
Stop me if you've heard this one, but Clemson got off to a slow start and before they knew it MIchigan held a double-figure lead. Clemson lost 69-61 and simply never recovered from the early deficit. The Tigers just couldn't put the ball in the basket, ending with an eFG% of 42.
