U of L has named Vince Tyra as its acting director of athletics. The announcement was made at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Tyra is the son of U of L basketball Hall of Famer Charlie Tyra and a native of Louisville. He attended Trinity High School before becoming a standout baseball player at the University of Kentucky. Tyra became a member of the U of L Foundation Board in February and also serves as an operating partner at Southfield Capital.
Among other things discussed at his introductory press conference, Tyra spoke of his lifelong fandom of Louisville athletics, his great relationship with Tom Jurich and his respect for Jurich’s work, and his willingness to give back to a community that means a great deal to him. He also stated that he has texted with multiple U of L coaches already, and plans to meet with the rest later today.
