The Hokies defeated the Spartans 93-74. Virginia Tech was in a dog fight with USC Upstate for most of the first half, trailing by as many as 13 before taking a seven-point lead into halftime. The Hokies forced the Spartans into 17 turnovers while only turning the ball over seven times themselves. Six Virginia Tech players scored in double-figures, including all five starters. Mylyjael Poteat scored 19 points on 7-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Brandon Rechsteiner had 19 points and dished out four assists. Tyler Johnson came off the bench to score 16 points and grabbed four rebounds.
