Before Greg Sankey and Tony Petetti try to destroy the college football playoffs with their auto bid nonsense, their scheduling agreements, and their threats to make the college football playoff their personal invitational, we got a shot in the arm of integrity from the CFP Committee.
It may be one of the final times we see a fairly equitable college football selection. The CFP took a stand to value conference championships and actual wins, not bow down to the mighty SEC. They made the only proper decision and put SMU in over Alabama.
It wasn’t the only decision I applaud them for.
- Indiana being a 10 seed despite an 11-1 record, rewarded Indiana for a fine season, but punished them by having them go on the road to Notre Dame
- ACC Champion Clemson just didn’t have the resume to receive a BYE game, and putting them at 12th with 3 losses is fair.
- SMU making the field and leaving out Alabama goes without saying
- Boise State getting a BYE, truly gives the best G5 team playing a reward for a 12-1 season whose only loss was a close game to Oregon.
The gripes are few this year, and when was the last time we could say that about the CFP committee?
