College football guru Phil Steele has released his preseason all-conference teams for the ACC. Eight Tar Heels make the cut in some form but only two on the first team.
On the offensive side, Marquise Williams is the 2nd team quarterback and Quinshad Davis is tapped as a 2nd team wide receiver. Running back T.J. Logan and offensive lineman Landon Turner were placed on the 4th team which would honorable mention in official ACC voting.
For defense linebacker Norkeithus Otis received 2nd team consideration, linebacker Travis Hughes was on the 3rd team and defensive back Tim Scott was named to the 4th team.
UNC's two first team nods came on special teams. Punter Tommy Hibbard and punt returner Ryan Switzer were 1st team for special teams with Logan getting 4th team as a kick returner.
While the deluge of preseason lists are generally worthless, it should be noted UNC doesn't have more players on this list because of the number of unknown commodities on this team. This is a list full of players "you've heard of before" which is generally how most, if not all, preseason teams or watch lists are constructed. It also doesn't consider various factors like the fact Switzer is set to be a key piece in the offense or Williams might not even be the starter when fall rolls around.
The point here is UNC is going to need some players to step up, in some cases out of nowhere, to raise the overall level of play in 2014.
