Game Recap

What just happened?  I thought I turned on a college basketball game and instead I watched a girl's middle school basketball team take on the Miami Hurricanes.  I deleted all traces of the game from my DVR for fear that it would permeate into my HD TV and somehow destroy it.

Whatever momentum, sense of self, and offensive flow that the Terps developed over the long non-conference stretch is now completely gone.  Maryland looks completely lost.  Every single one of them.  They are turning the ball over and bricking shots.

I know Mark Turgeon is a good coach but it is beyond me how the Terps can look this bad.  I can't imagine a Gary Williams team ever playing a game like this but I'm not about to hang this one completely on the coach.

The players play the games and they are the ones that looked great against Virginia Tech and Florida State for a half.  We need to remember that this squad is filled with mostly kids under the age of 20.  Wild swings between excellence and putridity are inevitable.

Thomas Paine, a founding father once said about the darkest days of the American Revolution, "These are the times that try men's souls." Many people are familiar with that quote but not everyone knows the rest of the quote:

"The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

In summation, the team and fans can't give up.  Turgeon has assembled a team of talented young men.  Turgeon is a good coach. The team will see their way out of it.  If not, the season will be over by the Super Bowl.
