The Demon Deacons did not bring home the result they were looking for.
Wake Forest held a 10-0 lead at halftime, but got nothing going in the second half and ultimately lost 17-10. Wake scored just two minutes and 50 seconds into the game when Steve Donatell blocked a punt that was recovered by Kevin Johnson in the endzone. The Deacs also closed the first half on a 9-play, 45-yard drive that resulted in a 38 yard field goal from redshirt freshman Mike Weaver.
The Wake Forest defense was very good for the most part and held ULM to just 352 yards. Wake's offense, on the other hand, managed to rack up just five first downs and 94 yards of total offense. Freshman quarterback looked good when he had time, but the offensive line just did not give him enough time to read the defense and make a decision. They allowed far too many sacks tonight and opened up almost no holes in the running game. Wolford finished 12-22 for 95 yards with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. The interception came after receiver Matt James bobbled the ball and it was ultimately caught and returned for a touchdown by ULM's Mitch Lane.
Next Saturday, Wake Forest (0-1,0-0) will host Gardner-Webb. Continue to follow Blogger So Dear for more reaction to tonight's loss in addition to a preview of next week's matchup.
