The Deacs are a huge favorite this weekend in Winston-Salem
The next two weeks will feature some pretty wide spreads for Wake Forest on both sides of the spectrum. This Saturday the Demon Deacons take on the Rice Owls in Winston-Salem and opened as a 24.5 point favorite. It has already pushed up to 25.5 with an over/under of 67 points.
If it goes as Vegas thinks then it would be roughly a 46-21 game, which is right around the type of score that I would expect given the strengths and weaknesses of each respective team.
The Deacs enter the game 2-2 after a huge loss to Notre Dame. The Owls are 1-3 and quite frankly should be 0-4, as they had just a 21% win expectancy against Prarie View A&M and still managed to win 31-28. They lost 40-22 to Southern Miss this weekend and had a 0% chance to win.
Rice ranks 127th in the nation out of 130 teams, and is 98th in offensive S&P+ and 128th in defensive S&P+. For comparative purposes, Wake Forest ranks 84th overall, 72nd on offense, and 92nd on defense.
While we saw that there are never sure things in football (cough, cough, Virginia Tech, cough cough), this is one of the worst FBS teams Wake Forest has played in a while, so hopefully it will not be close in the 4th quarter.
Now with that being said, S&P+ has Wake as just a 22 point favorite, which would not cover. I don’t know what the plan will be with the quarterbacks on Saturday, much less what the hell we will do differently on defense, so this is a tough game to bet.
My heart says Wake will cover easily, but my head says it’s a close game, so I’m just going to skip that and pound the over 67.5 because this should be one really high scoring game.
Bet that now before it goes up and you will not be sorry!
