Another ACC conference matchup, another really interesting game. If you like scoring, you probably enjoyed Maryland's 88-80 win over Boston College last night.
Maryland jumped out to an early double-digit lead before Boston College put things together in the middle of the first half. The Eagles got a break as the referees allowed a Joe Rahon layup at the end of a shot clock to count to end halftime. It cut Maryland's lead to 42-36 after 20 minutes of action. Right out of the break, the Eagles continued playing well. Olivier Hanlan did a masterful job of getting to the rim, getting to the free throw line, or creating for his teammates and helped Boston College take a lead. Hanlan finished with 26 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Eagles' lead was short-lived thanks to Dez Wells. Wells scored at will in the second half and finished with 33 points on 12-18 shooting. Maryland finished strong and Boston College was simply unable to get stops when they needed it.
It was my first extended look at Boston College and the Eagles, like a lot of teams this season, aren't able to protect the rim. Its similar to the problem that Duke is having this season. For Maryland, it is undeniable that the roster is talented. Maryland's problem this season has been scoring consistently, but it certainly wasn't a problem on Thursday night. Boston College will play Philadelphia University on Sunday and Maryland has quick turnaround as they host Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon.
That will be the last ACC conference game until January.
The ACC has the night off before a heavy schedule of games tomorrow including UNC and Kentucky. Enjoy the highlights, links, and more below.
