Despite strong start, Devin Street being overshadowed by Tyler Boyd

Pitt senior wide receiver is perhaps the team's offensive leader. After all, he's the one that drew all of the preseason recognition and has been touted as the Panthers' go to guy. Don't tell fans that, though, as freshman Tyler Boyd has been the talk of the town.

Boyd has shown his ability as an all-purpose standout. Returning kicks, on end around runs, and catching passes, the receiver has been all over the field. Still, that doesn't mean Street isn't having some kind of year himself.

As I mentioned on Twitter tonight, Street just passed up Larry Fitzgerald for third on Pitt's career receptions list (more on this tomorrow). Needing only 16 to catch the leader in the clubhouse, Latef Grim, Street has been one of the best wideouts in school history. Through two games, he's been every bit as productive as Boyd when it comes to catching the ball.

On the season, Street has 11 catches for 221 yards to Boyd's eight for 160. That's not to say that he's been the more valuable player overall as Boyd has 93 rushing yards as well and two total touchdowns while Street has yet to score. But the senior has been pretty darn good himself so far in 2013. He's on pace to not only break the school record in receptions, but also career yardage, too.

It's more than fair that Boyd has stolen the spotlight. Pitt hasn't seen an overall talent like him in some time and the thought of having him for at least three seasons is downright exciting. But Street shouldn't be lost in the shuffle since he's been even more productive catching balls this year.
