The Summer League has kind of dropped off my radar a bit, but the league wrapped up on Wednesday night. As Pitt players were spread throughout the league, there were a couple on the winning team.
Mike Young and James Robinson helped lead their team to the title with a 115-109 win. They fought back from a 13-point deficit at the half Rene Castro had a summer league record 56 points in the defeat.
Robinson had 22 points and 11 assists while Young had 26 points and 11 boards.
To me, Young is the wild card for Pitt this season. The Panthers need him to rebound better and with the losses of Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna, do a little more on offense this year, too. Young wasn't altogether bad last season, and as a freshman, definitely had a lot on his shoulders. But overall, he was just inconsistent at times and could stand to do a bit more.
He put up some big totals in the summer league ... but then again, so did everybody else. Still, though, great to see him and James win the title.
