1) Anthony Harris, Virginia
Anthony Harris is fresh off a first team All-ACC season at safety. He’s been picked pre-season All-ACC going into this season and was on a number pre-season All-American lists. He led the nation in interceptions with 8 last year, and had 80 tackles. Scouts are impressed by his ball skills, and he’s projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round NFL draft choice. Harris is a next level talent is one the best defensive players in the ACC.
2) Jalen Ramsey, Florida State
When you are versatile enough to play cornerback and safety in your freshman season at talent rich Florida State, you know you are an elite talent. He made several freshman All-American teams. The hard hitting Ramsey had 49 tackles last year, and is looking to build off a strong freshman year. Prediction here – Ramsey will be a 1st team All-American before he leaves Florida State.
3) Jeremy Cash, Duke
Joining Harris last year on the All-ACC team and this year as a pre-season All-ACC selection is Duke junior Safety Jeremy Cash. Cash is also projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round NFL pick. Last year he had 121 tackles. At 6 foot 2 and 210 lbs, he’s got good size for a safety. You’ll see him playing on Sundays.
4) Durrell Eskridge, Syracuse
Durrell Eskridge is Syracuse’s first defensive entry our Top 5 player rankings, and he’s a good one. He was third team All-ACC Selection last year. He made Mel Kiper’s top 5 safety list for non-seniors. He had 78 tackles last season, and is expected to be a leader on Syracuse’s defense this year.
5) Kyshoen Jarrett, Virginia Tech
Senior Kyshoen Jarrett has been a productive player at Virginia Tech. He had 71 tackles on a 3rd Team All-ACC season last year. Hokie DB coach Torian Gray had this to say about Jarrett…”I thought he got better this year from a coverage standpoint,” While not projected to go as as high in the NFL draft as some of the players on this list, but he still considered a NFL prospect. He is likely a 4th-7th round pick.
