The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team locked in its fourth transfer portal addition over the weekend, bringing in a second player who played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this past season.

Ibrahim Souare, a six-foot-nine forward who averaged 2.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17 minutes per game in his first year with Georgia Tech, is committing to Syracuse. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello was the first to report.

Souare played in 30 games for the Yellow Jackets in 2024-25, 14 of which came as a starter.

A native of Conakry, Guinea, Souare first committed to Georgia Tech over offers from Niagara and Oregon. He was ranked as a three-star recruit in 2023 by ESPN and unranked by 247Sports. Souare redshirted during the 2023-24 season.

Souare mostly played a limited role for the Yellow Jackets this past year, but showed some flashes around the basket on both ends and profiles as someone who could step in to play small-ball five as a versatile defender who can at least be somewhat of a presence on offense.

Souare will enter the 2025-26 season with three years of eligibility remaining, so there’s also the chance coach Adrian Autry and the program could develop him into a long-term piece going forward.

Specifically at the four spot, Syracuse already has Donnie Freeman returning plus the addition of four-star recruit Sadiq White. That being said, Syracuse still needed some depth in the frontcourt with the departures of Petar Majstorovic, Eddie Lampkin, Naheem McLeod and Jyare Davis.

Souare is the second former Georgia Tech player to commit to the Orange via the transfer portal, joining guard Naithan George. The Orange so far have also landed former Oregon State guard Nate Kingz and former UCLA forward William Kyle III.
