A few months ago, the story went that the NCAA cloud hanging over UNC was so toxic, people wondered if Roy Williams would ever get recruiting back on track.
That story appears to be mostly dead at this stage with the Tar Heels adding a commitment from Columbia, SC combo guard Seventh Woods this morning. The newest addition to the Tar Heel family is 6-1, 170 lbs and can play both the point and wing guard positions. Woods, ranked 40th in the RSCI, is the third commitment in the class of 2016 joining center Tony Bradley(RSCI #28) and wing guard Brandon Robinson(RSCI #58).
The recruitment of Woods has been a long saga. Roy Williams originally offered Woods in October, 2013 and during the early portions of the recruitment it appeared he was headed for Chapel Hill. Over the past year, UNC found itself in a two school race with South Carolina with Wood ultimately choosing the Tar Heels over the hometown Gamecocks.

Heading into the actual basketball season, UNC has three solid commitments for 2016 and highly touted guard Jalek Felton on board in the 2017 class. The recent run of commitments has effectively quelled concerns about UNC recruiting and given the program some much needed momentum in this area. Now a run to the Final Four or even a national title plus resolution for the NCAA issues next spring should set Roy Williams up for a huge 2017 class.
