Jerome Smith tells reporters that he's coming back for his senior season.
We've kinda gotten used to the idea that any Syracuse Orange football junior who has shown a modicum of progress will go pro rather than wait around for their stock to drop.
We're all pretty much in agreement that junior Sean Hickey is a goner. And I thought that most of us figured RB Jerome Smith was taking his talents to the NFL as well. Smith considered jumping before this season but came back after an unfavorable review. Sure, this season was a statistical disappointment for him, but, is he still considering going pro?
"Why wouldn't I come back?" he said. "I've got another year. I've got some things I need to polish. There are some things that I want to accomplish. Yeah, I'm coming back."
Well, then. That's very good news for us. A loaded backfield remains loaded. Smith will be back alongside Prince-Tyson Gulley, Devante McFarlane and George Morris II, as well as any newbies who work their way up. The only question is, where's all this playing time for everyone gonna come from?
Good problems to have.
