Yesterday critics of the ESPN ACC extension assumed that payouts to the ACC would not increase. We suggested that they might.
That said additional games with Notre Dame with the bigger ACC Football schools would be something ESPN may be willing pay to for, and that could create additional revenue for those ACC brands.
It turns out we may have been correct. When the esteemed David Teel says it, there is something to it.
Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua wants to play more football games vs. brand-name ACC opponents. That’s one avenue to further monetizing the conference’s newly extended contract with ESPN. https://t.co/CEXCiqJWfB

If you thought the deal was a simple extension of the current deal, that does not seem to be the case. I expect many more moving parts in the coming weeks. This includes a discussion of a potential settlement between the ACC and FSU/Clemson, increased media revenue payouts, revenue distribution models, and more. These are the upcoming storylines to pay attention to, not the FSU/Clemson to the Big 12 type nonsense that somehow gained even a moment of people’s attention.
