The Mustangs continued their impressive first season in the ACC with a 76-65 victory over the Golden Bears. The SMU defense was impressive with 10 steals, five blocks, and holding Cal to 34.3% field goal shooting. Chuck Harris led SMU with 20 points, four assists, three steals, and three assists. Matt Cross recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. B.J. Edwards added 15 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Rytis Petraitis had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Cal, while Jeremiah Wilkinson added 16 points.
