Simi Shittu, a top recruit in the 2018 class, aims to be a one-and-done player.
The basketball recruiting news has been good for the North Carolina Tar Heels the last few weeks.
First, they landed top 10 recruit Nassir Little in the 2018 class, a big get for head coach Roy Williams and the program.
But they might not be done.
Then it appeared as if they were gaining steam for class of 2018 forward Simi Shittu who reportedly is down to UNC and Vanderbilt.
Shittu is a big recruit in the 2018 class and would make UNC’s class that much better.
If the Tar Heels land him however, he likely would be a one-and-done player.
Adam Zagoria caught up with Shittu on Wednesday via phone call and the commit says his goal is being a one-and-done player.
Asked if it was his goal to be one-and-done, Shittu said Thursday by phone, “Yeah, it is.”
UNC hasn’t had the success of landing recent one-and-done players with just three in the Roy Williams era. The latest was Tony Bradley Jr. who bolted after just one season at North Carolina.
Shittu took his visit to Vanderbilt over the weekend and the Commodores appear to be picking up some steam. The recruit told Zagoria that Vanderbilt plans to play him anywhere and will help him become that one-and-done player.
As for UNC, Shittu says that the Tar Heels want him to come in and play valuable minutes right away. He also said that UNC understands the possibility of him being one-and-done and are willing to help him down that path.
Shittu is set to visit UNC on Nov. 10 but he’s undecided on if he will announce in November or wait until the Spring.
