In another ACC Friday night thriller, the Cal Golden Bears traveled across the country and came away with a 46-36 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Fernando Mendoza had a fantastic game, completing 40-56 passes for 385 passing yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 51 yards on 9 carries with a rushing score as well. Hank Bachmeier, Demond Claiborne and the Demon Deacons fought hard, as Bachmeier finished with 274 passing yards on 19-34 passing with 2 touchdowns through the air and 1 on the ground as well. Claiborne ran hard all night, finishing with 113 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown while catching 3 passes for 51 yards and a score on a razzle dazzle play. The Golden Bears' special teams played a huge part in their win, as Hunter Barth made two huge plays, first forcing Demond Claiborne into a fumble that Miles Williams returned for a touchdown and then later on recovering a fumble on another punt return by Taylor Morin. Add in a blocked field goal attempt by Xavier Carlton, and two 54-yard career-long field goals by Ryan Coe, and you can see why the Golden Bears' special teams unit truly was special in this win.
