Dave Clawson Ranked Last In Athlon Sports' ACC Coaching Rankings: Should He Be?

Athlon Sports was tough on Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson, as he was rated last in the ACC coaching rankings on their website.

Dave Clawson has gotten the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to look a lot better in just two years as head coach, but unfortunately for him their improvement has not resulted in an increase in wins as Clawson has gone 3-9 in each of his two seasons at Wake Forest. As a result, Athlon Sports has ranked Clawson last in their 2016 ACC Coaching Rankings. Clawson also has not had the results in ACC play that he would like as he only has two total victories in conference play.

The program has a lot to be happy about even if they are not winning the amount of games they would like. With great young talent and a team of mostly underclassmen coupled with strong recruiting classes, the future of the Demon Deacons looks far brighter than it did just a few years ago.

If these rankings are to be improved, Clawson is definitely going to need to return the Deacons to success not just in recruiting, but on the field as well. The team has that opportunity this season with a very favorable schedule and the most talent they have had in years. With a few more victories and possibly a winning season and bowl berth a possibility, Clawson has the opportunity to impress and rise in these rankings. He has won everywhere he's been. We will see if he can get results at Wake Forest.

In my opinion, Clawson's ranking is understandable given his record, however with his recruiting success and promising young team, it would not be surprising if he moves up in these rankings even after just this season.   With Boston College's recent struggles under Steve Addazio and Virginia starting over with Bronco Mendenhall, Clawson could definitely rise in the next rankings.
