A few weeks ago we wondered if Georgia Tech was actually a good team. After their 38-24 win over Wake Forest, I’m going to say it – Georgia Tech is a good football team. Flawed yes, but also pretty darn good. At 4-2 you have to remember this team is 2 points from being 6-0 and being ranked number 9 in the country.
Now you can’t erase those two losses – Tennessee is a terrible football team that Georgia Tech lost to with a 4th quarter collapse. Then there was another collapse against Miami, but this team has an upset coming. Georgia Tech has 3 very good team remaining on their schedule – Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Georgia. The Jackets probably won’t win the Coastal Division, but I’ve seen enough to convince me The Yellow Jackets are going to knock off one of their ranked opponents.
QB Taquon Marshall has full command of the offense, and has been one of the ACC’s best quarterbacks. The defense still has issues. I’d like to see DC Ted Roof get more aggressive, but it’s an improved unit from a year ago especially on third down. Down 21-13 at the half to a solid Wake Forest team, Georgia Tech’s season was literally about to tank. Despite as we mentioned that the Jackets were 2 points from the top 10, a loss to Wake Forest would have had them 3-3 with Clemson coming up. They came up with one of their better halves of football of the season outscoring the Deacs 25-3 in the 2nd half.
The Jacket’s option offense is and has been the equalizer against teams that have more talent than Georgia Tech. Since 2014 Georgia Tech has wins over ranked teams Florida State, Clemson, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Mississippi State and another one is coming.
