Pitt had a miserable weekend with their loss to Duke on Saturday. And while running back James Conner likely doesn't care as much, it's interesting to note that he moved back to the top of college football's rushing leaders with his monster performance.
Conner ran for 263 yards against the Blue Devils and, in the process, is back atop the leaderboard for rushing yardage.
With 1,342 yards, Conner went to the top of the list. Western Michigan's Jarvion Franklin is second with 1,330 yards and the closest P-5 running back to Conner is Indiana's Tevin Coleman, who has 1,300 yards.
It's worth noting that Conner is second in the nation in carries with 220 and the only player ahead of him is Franklin with 242. While Conner's 6.1 yards per carry is an obscene number several players actually rank higher. Conner has also played nine games while some players below him have only played eight so far. There's a good chance he gets passed up eventually.
He'll need more games like the Duke one this past weekend to get back into the Heisman race - and even there, it will be difficult for him to make serious waves on a sub-.500 team. But if Conner leads the nation or comes close to it, the Doak Walker Award given to the top running back might be within his reach.
