The tremendous start to the Pat Kelsey era has resulted in a raise for the man at the center of “The Reviville.”
The University of Louisville Athletic Association’s board approved a one-year extension to Kelsey’s original five-year deal that will keep him under contract through the 2029-30 season. The new deal will also increase the ACC Coach of the Year’s salary from $2.3 to $3.3 million.
Here’s a full rundown of the new bonus structure of Kelsey’s contract:
I’ve seen some complain that it’s too soon for a bump in pay, and others complain that the bump in pay isn’t large enough. Personally, I think it’s perfect. It’s a show of appreciation that isn’t so overwhelming that it’ll look ridiculous if things somehow go sideways over the years ahead. It’s also more than enough to rid us of the “paying your old horrendous coach more than you’re paying your current really good coach” distinction.
Let’s keep rolling.
