We learned last week that Austin Nichols would miss Virginia's season opener against UNC Greensboro, but he isn't the only one. Virginia annoucned Mamadi Diakite will also miss the opener due to eligibilty concerns.
Austin Nichols will miss the season opener due to violation of team rules. It's not exactly a great first impression for the Memphis transfer, but assuming this is just a minor blip in his time at UVA, his performance should make sure everyone forgets.
For Diakite, its a question of his amateurism...
On Tuesday, UVa announced that redshirt freshman forward Mamadi Diakite will miss the Cavaliers’ season-opening game at UNC Greensboro on Nov. 11. Diakite will miss one game as a result of the initial evaluation of amateurism, which was conducted by the NCAA and UVa in the fall of 2015.
Without Nichols and Diakite, I'd expect to see big minutes from the front court of Isaiah Wilkins and Jack Salt.
Virginia opens up with UNC Greensboro on Friday, November 11th at 7 PM.
