It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it.
After losing in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday in the Crossroads Classic to Indiana, the Irish bounced back nicely as the took down Dartmouth 97-87.
It wasn’t the prettiest effort from the Irish — 87 points was the second highest output Dartmouth had this season. The Big Green also sank 15 three-pointers, tied for most given up in the Mike Brey era. The defense is something that needs to make big strides quickly before the daunting ACC slate starts later this month
One player who did bring their best effort was senior Bonzie Colson. The All-American posted a career-high 37 points on 15-21 from the field, pulled down 11 rebounds, swiped three steals and posted two blocks.
Senior guard Matt Farrell also enjoyed a productive night. Farrell poured in 22 points on 8-13 from the field with six assists and and three steals.
Martinas Geben and Rex Pflueger chipped in with 13 points a piece, while Geben also helped out with nine boards. Sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs took a step back after an effective performance on Saturday. Gibbs was 2-9 from the field with only nine points.
The Irish bench was held pretty much in check all night long. Only one player off the bench played more than 10 minutes and that was freshman D.J. Harvey. This is something that is not encouraging, as these are the type of games where guys like Harvey, John Mooney and Nikola Djogo should see extended time.
The Irish will have one more chance to get more guys involved in the rotation, as they will take on Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday. The game will be broadcasted on the ACC Network or can be streamed on the WatchESPN app. Follow right along here at One Foot Down for coverage all season long.
