There's been a lot of concern about Pitt's running back situation - and for good reason.
With the passing game a significant question mark, the Panthers need a solid running game. While Isaac Bennett doesn't have a ton of game experience, the thought is that he should be a reliable runner for the team this year. But with injuries to he and freshman James Conner, the backfield was largely in doubt.
The PG's Sam Werner has good news, however. According to him, Pitt should have both ready for Monday's game against Florida State.
I expected they would play but their status was largely in doubt. Earlier last week, offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph said that Bennett in particular had been doing more so that was encouraging.
The next big question, of course, is how much will they play? That's anybody's guess but Chryst saying they would be ready for a game on Friday if it came to that makes me think both will be able to handle a full (or close to it) load. Bennett was held out of much of training camp, but part of that was likely precautionary.
Remember, while Conner and Crockett needed camp to battle for the No. 2 spot, Bennett's was wrapped up. I've said before (and still stand by it) that Bennett missed valuable time in getting reps with new quarterback Tom Savage. But the reality is that it's much more important that he enter the Florida State game as healthy as possible.
Look for both to take on a big role on Monday.
