Syracuse beat Le Moyne. This isn’t 2009. Can we put that to bed?

As Syracuse closed out its exhibition schedule against “cross-town rival” Le Moyne, it helped restore world order. In the most important news of the day, Jim Boeheim elected to revert to the 2-3 zone and ditched the man-to-man defense. Syracuse still utilized its press for most of the game but defaulted to 2-3 in the half-court as it defeated the Dolphins 97-64.

Andrew White got loose in the first half by going five of six from downtown. He scored 19 points in the first half alone and helped give Syracuse a 45-36 lead at the break.

White continued his solid play into the second half. He finished the night as the high point man with 24 points on six threes. John Gillon went on a 9-0 run all on his own midway through the second, starting with a triple followed by three shots at the rim which gave Syracuse a 76-51 lead.

Gillon finished with 14 points and two helpers. Tyus Battle chipped in 17 points of his own while Franklin Howard added 11 points and seven dimes.

All in all Syracuse had nine players score in the victory. The Orange shot 56.1 percent in the game (that’s pretty good) and 40.7 percent from three (also pretty good) and out-rebounded Le Moyne 43-28.

Syracuse will have two days to prepare for Colgate on Friday. That game tips at 7 p.m. and can be streamed live via ESPN3/ACC Network.
