Didn't find time to get around to this last week, but ICYMI, the preseason USA Today Coaches College Football Poll was released. If you needed a reminder that the football season is right around the corner, the beginning of the preseason polls should be a good reminder.
Pitt wasn't ranked and the Panthers didn't receive a single vote. Frankly, it would have been surprising if they did. The team has a favorable schedule, but any number of new question marks and lost quite a bit of key players on both sides of the ball from a 7-6 team. If Pitt gets out to a fast start, they'll likely earn some consideration, but in the preseason? Not a chance.
The ACC had three representatives, led by No. 1 Florida State. They were the only team from the conference in the top 15, actually. Clemson checked in at No. 16 and North Carolina was No. 23. Miami, Duke, Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech all earned votes.
I was a little surprised Duke didn't get any more consideration. They didn't lose a lot from a 10-win Division winning team last year and probably deserved more than the 41 total points they got that was good enough to place them 35th.
